Situated at the point of arrival, the Café Lounge - once a series of dark, enclosed meeting rooms - now provides views to a new garden across a cosy club-style bistro. To create this welcoming series of spaces, we opened up the external elevation to allow full height glazing. Aligned with this and spanning its full length, we introduced an internal glass screen from the lift lobbies and corridor set within a brass portal.
The new Café Lounge concept is an open-all-day business hub and bar, providing coffee and patisserie throughout the day, smart bistro table service at lunch and bar by night. Europlaza tenants have embraced this amenity and regularly hire it for functions and private events.
We used the large structural columns to zone the space, creating a variety of cosy, intimate settings. The emphasis is on comfort and texture however, while the materials bring a sense of warmth and luxury, they also had to be practical and hardworking. We used a ceramic wood floor, wool upholstery and velvet alongside wood panelling, brass, handmade ceramic tile and quartz. The Café Lounge is a relaxed and reassuring space to meet colleagues for coffee, bring visitors, escape to do some work or have lunch and talk business.
